Mission

Our school is a community that celebrates children and their accomplishments. We know that learning through play is just the beginning
of a lifelong educational experience. In a trusting atmosphere, with an eye to their present academic, kindergarten readiness needs and the supportive arms of our dedicated teaching staff around them, SMCNS children begin to prepare for their educational journey into adulthood.

We provide high quality early childhood education in a Christian environment that reflects the attitude of Christ to “love as I have loved you.”

Our mission is to provide opportunities for children in age appropriate, developmentally based programs which fully optimize each child’s
emotional, cognitive, physical, social and spiritual growth.

Philosophy

Your child comes to us as a puzzle, holding the promise of a beautiful picture.  The early years are a time of sorting out the many pieces of this human puzzle, in pursuit of personal understanding and awareness.  At SMCNS, we have a child centered philosophy focused on school readiness.

  • We believe that a school for young children should structure its program, not the children in its care. We design our programs to foster self-esteem, socialization skills, and interactive language abilities.

  • We believe it is most important to treat children with respect. We strive every day to look at life through the eyes of children and gear our wide range of programs to their specific needs.

  • We believe the strength of our program is the dedication of our teaching staff. We support our teachers with training resources and the freedom to create unique learning experiences for children.

  • We believe that the best early childhood education is not fact-schooled, but focuses on process, with an emphasis on problem solving and creativity.

  • We believe child development is a lateral process in which physical, emotional, social and spiritual growth are as important as cognitive development. Children at SMCNS experience learning through concrete, hands-on activities.

  • We believe that children need to spend countless hours, weeks, and months organizing and reorganizing their world. Individually and in groups, they need to represent, with endless variety, the relationships they perceive. Our classrooms are carefully planned environments, which enable children, through actions, objects, and words, to explore and experiment and create their own understanding of the world that they encounter.

  • We believe in setting appropriate limits, not imposing adult discipline. We establish consistent, age appropriate limits to help children function in the world around them.

  • We believe we have a responsibility to the family as well as to the child. Exceptional educational programs for young children require a well-developed three-way partnership between parent, teacher, and child.
